About the Project
In this project, I explored the construction of lowercase modular letters, drawing inspiration from the shape and structure of dumplings. The final outcome consists of a hand-painted modular typography A1 poster, created using white acrylic paint on red paper, along with an accompanying guidebook.
Testing, Trial, and Triumph of Handcrafted Letterforms Inspired by Food
Crafting by hand turned out to be more challenging than digital design, as many factors affect the outcome. Using white acrylic paint, I went through trial and error, testing different inks to find the right consistency for clean transfers. I developed a modular stencil system inspired by dumpling shapes, which guided my letterform design. This project was my first time designing letters, and it was a rewarding challenge to balance readability with the dumpling-inspired form, teaching me the patience and precision needed for handcrafting.
